Visits to Harrogate & York
Excursion to The Yorkshire Dales
This morning we make our way to the spa town of Harrogate. Harrogate has been a tourist destination since the 18th century. It was a very popular with English and European nobility during Victorian and Edwardian times, due to the medicinal properties of the water.
Harrogate today is a pleasant spa town with grand buildings and pleasant parks. Not to be missed is a visit Betty’s Tea Room, where there is a choice of 300 breads, cakes and chocolates, as well as 50 different teas and coffees!
A full day exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, where we enjoy a visit to the pretty Wharfedale market town of Grassington.
Later we travel via Kettlewell, the location used to represent the village of ‘Knapely’ in the 2003 film ‘Calendar Girls’, to Hawes, beautifully situated in Wensleydale.
We return via Ribblesdale, passing the impressive Ribblehead Viaduct.
Following a leisurely morning we head to York, take some time to wander the cobbled streets, visit the beautiful York Minister which dates back to 637AD or enjoy a spot of lunch.
This afternoon we return to your original pick-up point.
Built in the 18th century by a wealthy Bradford wool merchant, Nidd is a potpourri of architectural styles.
Rumour has it that Edward VIII met Wallis Simpson at a party here!
There is an indoor pool and lots of activities.
Most of the rooms are in a purpose-built building close to the historic house.
