Day at leisure in Cambridge
Our coach will set you down in the centre of Cambridge. A visit to this city and you can't fail to be mesmerised by the 31 colleges making up the University of Cambridge including Kings College.
There's a world of exploration ahead at the many museums and galleries in this city; so many you won't be able to fit them all into one day. The Fitzwilliam museum which is home to over 1/2 million artworks or the Polar museum where you follow in the footsteps of Captain Scott on his Antarctic adventures.
Our first stop today is in the city of Ely. Here you have chance to visit the magnificent Cathedral or take a stroll around the town.
Afternoon visit to the National Trust property Anglesey Abbey, a Jacobean-style house with gardens and a working watermill. A passion for tradition and impressing guests inspired one man to transform a run-down country house and desolate landscape.
At the age of 30, the future Lord Fairhaven began to create his first home. Wanting to inspire and surprise visitors, he created a spectacular garden with planting for all seasons and a cosy house in which to entertain. Life revolved around horse racing and shooting and guests enjoyed 1930s luxury.
Morning visit to Bury St Edmunds. A traditional market town with a fascinating heritage, there is a pleasing combination of medieval architecture, elegant Georgian squares and the glorious cathedral and Abbey Gardens. Why not pop into The Nutshell, Britain’s smallest pub!
Later we visit the attractive market town of Sudbury, birthplace of the artist Thomas Gainsborough. We return via Cavendish and Clare.
The Hallmark Cambridge Hotel and Golf Club stands in 200 acres of grounds just a short drive from the city centre.
The hotel has contemporary décor and spacious public areas, hotel facilities include Waves Health and Leisure Club, with heated pool, sauna and steam room.
All the well appointed bedrooms are en suite with television, telephone and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift.
