Dunoon is the main resort on the beautiful Cowal Peninsula and the maritime gateway to the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
This is one of the Firth of Clyde’s foremost resorts and is built around the historic Castle Mound and famous for its large Victorian pier.
The town has an attractive promenade and a selection of craft shops and galleries, cafes and restaurants.
Overlooking the still waters of Loch Fyne, inveraray is a traditional county town of Argyll.
Established in 1745 by the 3rd Duke of Argyll, head of the powerful Clan Campbell, the town is an absolute set piece of Scottish Georgian architecture.
Key buildings that are worth visiting include the church and Inveraray Jail and Courthouse, now an award-winning museum that graphically recounts prison conditions from medieval times up until the 19th century.
A short walk north of the New Town, the neo-Gothic Inveraray Castle remains the family home of the Dukes of Argyll.
We visit Britain's finest Victorian Gothic Revival house. Described in 1900 as ‘one of the most magnificent specimens of domestic architecture in existence’.
The house has lavish interiors and beautiful gardens. Truly a house of firsts, it is believed Mount stuart was the first home in the world to have a heated indoor swimming pool!
