Manchester Ship Canal Cruise
Guided tour of Concorde GBOAC
We enjoy the six hour cruise along the Manchester ship Canal from liverpool to Salford Quays, a fascinating 35 mile journey. A commentary tells of how this major artery shaped the city of Manchester and the north west of England. Opened in 1894, The "BigDitch" (as it is said to be known to locals) consists of the Rivers Irwell and Mersey made navigable to Manchester for seagoing ships leaving the Mersey Estuary at Eastham Locks.
See the impressive Victorian Barton Swing Aqueduct, which carries the Bridgewater Canal over the Manchester Ship Canal. There’s a bar and servery on board, selling drinks and snacks.
We travel to the excellent runway Visitor Park at Manchester Airport. Included is a tour of Concorde G-BOAC, the pride of the ‘World’s Favourite Airline’ for so long. Enjoy a welcome briefing and a guided tour underneath Concorde to explore the technology behind the icon and an on-board tour with the chance to sit in the famous leather seats in the front cabin (learn about some of the aircraft's famous passengers and see where the Queen used to sit!).
In the beautiful county of Cheshire, midway between Chester and Liverpool, the Woodhey House offers an indoor pool and a health club. All rooms feature en-suite bathrooms, telephone, television, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift.
