Enjoy two days at leisure in the beautiful resort of torquay. this jewel of the English riviera is full of surprises with its magnificent horseshoe-shaped bay, swaying palm trees, elegant Victorian villas, a pretty marina, sweeping sandy beach and its fascinating Agatha Christie connections.
We travel to Paignton for a steam train ride on the Dart Valley Railway through beautiful scenery to Kingswear.
Later we enjoy a leisurely cruise on the river Dart, passing Kingswear and Dartmouth Castles, the Royal Naval College and Greenway House, once owned by Agatha Christie.
We explore Dartmoor, an atmospheric National Park of tors and bogs, with wild ponies roaming free.
We visit attractive Widdecombe-on-the-Moor of ‘Uncle Tom Cobley’ fame, which has a large church, known as the ‘Cathedral of the Moor’.
Later we cross the moor via Moretonhampstead, Postbridge and Princetown.
Our excursion today is to Devon’s handsome capital city, Exeter.
There is an abundance of attractions, such as the magnificent Cathedral dating back to Norman times, a historic quayside and antique and craft shops, also numerous restaurants and bars can be found in this location.
There is also a good range of shops in the city centre.
Morning visit to Brixham, which has a lively harbour and waterfront.
Look out for a full-size replica of Drake’s Golden Hind on the quay.
