Thames Cruise from Abingdon to Oxford
Included Entrance to Highclere Castle
Visit to Winchester
This morning we travel to the attractive Thameside town of Abingdon and enjoy a cruise along an attractive stretch of river to the ‘Dreaming Spires’ of Oxford.
We arrive at lunchtime and enjoy plenty of free time before returning to the hotel.
The highlight of our tour is a visit to the magnificent Highclere Castle, home of tV’s ‘Downton Abbey’ and probably the finest Victorian house still in existence.
With entrance included you can follow in the footsteps of the cast and explore the period rooms before heading to the grounds designed by the Northumberland landscape gardener, Capability Brown.
The Egyptian exhibition celebrates the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and his archaeological colleague, Howard Carter, who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun.
Today we head to the former capital of England, the Cathedral city of Winchester.
The city is easy to navigate and sights to see include The Great Hall, all that remains of Winchester Castle and the Round Table which according to legend is the table at which King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table met.
The medieval Cathedral houses the 12th Century Winchester Bible along with many other interesting antiquities.
This 4* de-luxe hotel forms part of the prestigious Madejski Stadium complex.
The bedrooms use natural materials to create a relaxing atmosphere.
All rooms are en-suite and in-room amenities include air-conditioning, satellite TV, telephone, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and safe.
