Admission to Chatsworth
We travel through the Derbyshire Dales to the delightful spa town of Buxton for a coffee break.
Later we travel via Snake Pass and Featherbed Top, passing Ladybower Reservoir, where the ‘Dambusters’ practiced their low-level flying, to picturesque Castleton, the ‘Gem of the Peak District’, for a lunch break.
We visit Bakewell, home of the famous pudding. The fine spire of All Saints Church looks down on the town, where there are some grand old houses, notably the Market Hall, The Old Town Hall and the Almshouses on South Church Street.
The ancient five arched bridge is much painted by artists. We return with a stop at Matlock Bath, beautifully situated by the River Derwent.
Chatsworth is one of the most glorious stately homes in England and a treasure trove of modern and historic artefacts. Wander around the three floors where you can see magnificent displays of art, furniture, sculptures and paintings housed in ornately decorated rooms.
There is just as much to see outside with 1000 acres of gardens described by Alan Titchmarsh as 'one of the best and most vibrant gardens in Britain', with the Emperor Fountain a celebrated feature.
Stylish modern hotel located about four miles from Derby.
With a striking circular lobby area, with lots of comfortable seating and a glass lift, the hotel is very well appointed and the tropical-styled indoor pool is a particular feature.
