Perthshire. Spey Valley and Scotlands far North
Travel through the Cairngorms with time free in the Highland capital, Inverness.
Northwards bound with beautiful coastal scenery all the way to thurso.
Passing Scotland’s most northerly mainland castle, Castle of Mey, home to the late Queen Mother, we see the Orkneys rise from the North Sea. At John O’Groats board the 40-minute ferry crossing over the Pentland Firth to begin a magical guided tour.
A private coach with driver/guide awaits to take you across the Churchill Barriers, visiting Scara Brae, Ring of Brodgar, Standing Stones, Italian Chapel and much more.
Caithness and Sutherland
Head west along the Northern coastline, entering the least populated area of the UK, passing sea lochs and villages reaching Durness with lunch included at the Smoo Cave Hotel. Turning south, the extraordinary beauty unfolds before you.
Mile upon mile of crumbling cliffs, sheer rocky headlands and sheltered bays with white deserted beaches. See/hear huge seabird colonies clustered in clefts on remote stacks; seals also bob around in the surf offshore, arriving at the picture-perfect harbour town of ullapool.
Loch Maree and Isle of Skye
Passing Corrieshalloch Gorge, we turn south along the coastline dotted with islands, stopping at the pretty fishing village of Gairloch.
Onwards towards skye along the shoreline of Scotland’s “bonniest” Loch Maree, before crossing the bridge and on to romantic Isle of Skye.
Isle of Skye
Firstly, Skye’s capital Portree, fringed by high ground and cliffs, where the harbour continues to be used by fishing boats.
We cross the island to the 800 year old Dunvegan Castle and Gardens - the stronghold of the Macleod Clan and Scotland’s longest inhabited castle.
Returning along the coast road with views of the Cuillin’s, the most impressive mountain range in the UK.
West Highlands, Glencoe and Loch Lomond
Saying farewell to the magic of Skye we stop at Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles, then over the mountain passes with time to enjoy the delights of Fort William.
Continuing through Glencoe and then along the shoreline of loch lomond “The Queen of Lochs” reaching the Glasgow area, for your final night’s stay.
Sadly, we begin our journey home. We break for lunch in Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, where there is time to explore Princes Street.
