Visit to Bakewell
This afternoon we arrive at Sudbury Hall, this late 17th century country house tells the story of a house designed and built as a showpiece for 17th century craftsmanship.
Some of the things you shouldn't miss – the long gallery, staircase, Grinling Gibbons carvings in the drawing room, ceiling paintings and 1930’s kitchen to name a few!
Today we head to Biddulph Grange Garden an extraordinary survival from the 19th century, this amazing Victorian garden was created by James Bateman for his collection of plants from around the world. A visit takes you on a global journey from Italy to the pyramids of Egypt, a Victorian vision of China and a re-creation of a Himalayan glen.
Next we take a return trip on the Churnet Valley Railway which takes you on a journey back to the classic days of railway travel, the rural line passes through beautiful countryside known as Staffordshire's "Little Switzerland".
Enjoy a great day out as we head firstly to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway for a journey through the tranquil Derbyshire countryside en-route to Ravenstor.
Next we visit the pretty Peak District village of Matlock for some free time.
This afternoon we board the Midland Railway in Butterley, sit back and relax as we take in the stunning scenery along the old line.
This morning we travel to Bakewell, one of the area's principal market towns and known as the `capital of the Derbyshire Dales'.
Bakewell is well known for its culinary delights of the Bakewell puddings - not “tarts” as Mr Kipling mentions!
The original recipe remains a guarded secret and is kept in a safe at Ye Olde Original Bakewell Pudding Shop in the town.
